Requested by La Redoute as part of Scoring by Positive, the family business DODO, specializing in the production of duvets and pillows since 1937, achieved the Gold score, ranking among the top 13% of the best-rated companies out of 213 suppliers evaluated since 2022. A result driven by an ambitious eco-innovation approach: optimizing processes to reduce textile scraps, revaluing production waste, and aiming to recycle 50% of its waste internally by 2028.
Eco-innovation at the heart of DODO's CSR strategy
Since its beginnings, the family business has continuously innovated to optimize the management of its raw materials; by using leftover fabric rolls to develop new products and valorize all the fabrics and fibers stored in its warehouses.
Today, DODO focuses on the eco-innovation, a fundamental pillar in the transformation of the textile and furniture industry. This concept aims to reduce the ecological footprint of manufacturing processes while meeting the growing demands of consumers for environmentally friendly products.
Vocabulary point:
- Information point / vocabulary
Eco-innovation : an approach that involves developing new products, processes, or services by integrating a reduction of their environmental impact from the design stage, combining technological innovation and sustainable development. - Recycling : a process that involves giving new utility to materials or waste that would otherwise be discarded — here, transforming fabric and fiber scraps into new products, rather than considering them as waste.
Reduce waste at the source: optimizing production processes
In order to reduce the amount of waste generated by the activities of the Saint-Avold production site, the processes have been optimized to minimize textile scraps at each stage of manufacturing.
The 2017 investment in multi-needle sewing machines
In 2017, DODO invested in an improved system for the cutting mechanism of its multi-needle sewing machines. Result: seamstresses were able to reduce by 32% the volume of fabric and fiber waste generated during the manual finishing of comforters.
New investments in these machines in 2023 have further increased their performance.
Giving a second life to production waste
The production waste from the Moselle factory is currently sent to a specialized provider who revalues it into insulation materials. A first step that fits into a circular logic, but DODO wants to go even further.

The next steps: revalue internally by 2028
DODO aims to acquire a specific production line, in order to revalue its production waste directly internally, thus advancing one of the key pillars of its CSR strategy: "Design a responsible offer".
The company has set itself the goal of recycling 50 % of its production waste internally by 2028.
The production teams have already conducted R&D work and managed to rework scraps of various materials to make padding, thus opening new perspectives for valorization.

The Gold score is the highest rating level in the Scoring by Positive® system. It is obtained by suppliers who demonstrate a particularly advanced level of CSR maturity across all evaluated dimensions. DODO achieved this score by ranking among the top 13 % of companies out of 213 suppliers evaluated by La Redoute since 2022 — a result particularly driven by its eco-innovation approach to managing textile waste.
Eco-innovation at DODO refers to all the initiatives aimed at reducing the environmental impact of the manufacturing process from the design stage. Specifically: optimizing cutting mechanisms to reduce textile waste (-32% since 2017), repurposing waste into insulation materials through an external provider, and R&D work to transform this waste into reusable padding internally.
Production waste from the Saint-Avold site is currently sent to a specialized provider who transforms it into insulation materials. DODO is simultaneously working to internalize this repurposing process, with the goal of recycling 50% of its production waste internally by 2028, thanks to a dedicated production line and ongoing R&D efforts.
This approach directly illustrates the pillar "Designing a responsible offer" of DODO's CSR strategy; one of the company's key focuses. It involves integrating the reduction of environmental impact from the design of products and manufacturing processes, rather than dealing with waste downstream.
