Positive Company® supported the ARPP in the development of its double materiality matrix, a first for an association bringing together companies and professionals.
The ARPP supports its members in the transformation of the advertising sector, particularly in light of new legal and ethical provisions that may impact their advertising campaigns. Its mission is to promote fair, truthful, healthy, and responsible advertising in the interest of professionals, consumers, the general public, and citizens.
The support from Positive Company® enabled ARPP to identify its main challenges and categorize them. Once this initial work was completed, Positive Company® proposed a method for selecting the stakeholders to consult. It was from this point that the double materiality consultation on the impact of the company on ARPP's mission and the impact of ARPP on society could begin.
Nearly 9,000 people received this consultation: members, employees, the board of directors of the ARPP, the Advertising Ethics Council (CEP), the Joint Advertising Council (CPP), the Advertising Ethics Jury (JDP), institutions and public authorities, schools, partners, professional organizations, and service providers.
"Convinced of the necessity to continue aligning the mission of the ARPP with societal expectations as well as those of our members, many of whom are eligible for the CSRD, we were eager to engage in the exercise of double materiality in a voluntary approach.
We wanted to be supported to meet a triple requirement:
1. Preserve the anonymity of respondents;
2. Comply with the obligations of the GDPR;
3. Having a solid methodology that ensures the robustness of the double materiality approach"
Stéphane Martin, General Director of the ARPP
Strengthen the mission of the ARPP
The lessons from this consultation are numerous. They reveal to the ARPP the importance of its regulatory mission for society as well as the impact of its decisions on society.
The challenge is therefore to enable the ARPP to strengthen its mission in order to effectively regulate advertising on issues of inclusion, ethics, diversity, transparency, and data protection, while balancing constitutional freedoms.
Ultimately, the double materiality matrix tool reinforces the ARPP in its role and encourages it to continue strengthening its mission.
